BEST OF LUCK TO WASSCE CANDIDATES

Some of them have completed some oral and practical sessions already and so far we have not heard of any malpractice.

A few years ago, a period like this gave the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), the Ministry of Education, the Ghana Education Service (GES) and parents sleepless moments and headaches.

Thanks to persistent public education by WAEC, all the stakeholders in education are beginning to appreciate better the harm that examination malpractice does to the moral fibre of candidates.

Some time ago, the eve of critical examinations such as WASSCE was a cocoa season for certain misguided elements in society to sell question papers. Although the incidence of examination malpractice has gone down considerably, there are a number of incorrigible elements in our midst who want to put their integrity at stake just for material gain.

WAEC still publishes the pictures of a number of students involved in examination malpractice to deter others from resorting to the easy way to achieve academic laurels.

Apart from serving as a deterrent to the bad lots in the schools and the education confraternity, the campaign leads to the curtailment of the academic pursuits of those who are caught engaged in examination malpractice.

The Daily Graphic wants to bring to the attention of the students who begin their examination today that cheating does not pay and that it will rather destroy their ambition to become responsible adults.

We are told that there is no shortcut to success. The only path to stardom is through hard work and keeping away from fraudulent activities.

The Daily Graphic reminds the students that their mates who make good grades and have the opportunity to dine with the President do not achieve the feat by accident but by their dedication to their books.

Now is the hour to prove your mettle that your three years in school was not a wasted endeavour. Even at this last hour, keep to your books, revise what you were taught by your teachers and answer the questions to the best of your abilities and success shall crown your efforts.

The Daily Graphic also appeals to officials of WAEC, the GES and the Ministry of Education to keep their integrity above reproach by desisting from misleading the WASSCE candidates.

LATEST GHANAIAN BILLONAIRE - ASIEDU NKETIA TO BUILD A HOUSE AND NAME IT " KWASIA BI NTI" AFTER WINNING A DEFAMATION SUIT AGAINST THE DAILY GUIDE NEWSPAPER

The Daily Guide has been ordered by an Accra High Court to pay GH₵250,000 in damages to Mr  Asiedu Nketia, the General  Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), after he won a defamation suit against the newspaper.

The newspaper had reported about three years ago that Mr Nketia used his position as a member of the Board of Directors of the Bui Power Authority to divert building materials for his personal building project - an accusation the NDC General Secretary denied.

Mr Nketia proceeded to sue the Daily Guide.The High Court on Wednesday,  ruled in his favour and awarded him damages to the tune of GH₵250,000.

Mr Nketia told Accra based AsempaFM after the ruling that he had been vindicated.He said despite drawing Daily Guide's attention to the fact that he did not own the house they alleged that he had built, the paper refused to retract the story.

He said even when the case was in court, he urged the Daily Guide to simply retract the story to enable him withdraw the case, but the paper refused to do so.

When asked if  the payment of GH₵250,000 would not cause the collapse of Daily Guide, Mr Nketia said it was GH₵ 1million he wanted from the court.He said he plans to build a house with the  money and name it "Kwasia bi nti".
