Essien dismisses Mourinho feud
Michael Essien has started just two games for Chelsea this season, all coming in the Capital One Cup which is the least cherished competition in England. The Ghanaian has dismissed claims which attributes his lack of first team football to a fallout with Jose Mourinho. The Portuguese signed Essien on loan from Chelsea during his last year at Real Madrid but has not handed him enough first team football at Stamford Bridge this season.
Essien told Accra-based Asempa FM:
“I am not worried to sit on the bench at Chelsea. I am an experienced player to cope with this situation. I will continue with my hard work and training and I hope my time will come to start games for Chelsea.”
Relations between Essien and Mourinho are believed to have had a snag after the Ghanaian ignored his manager’s advice not to represent his country. Essein revealed when asked of the situation:
“Never. I am going on well with Mourinho. There is no problem. This is not true. Mourinho has never asked me not to play for Ghana.”
Michael Essien played very well in Ghana’s 6-1 victory over Egypt last month. The Chelsea player will be available for the second leg of the game which will be played on 19 November 2013.
