The Akim Oda Magistrate Court has slapped 18 months jail term on Kwasi Kahoho, a farmer, for stealing 11 bunches of plantain valued 100 Ghana cedis.
The 28-year-old farmer pleaded guilty to stealing. Mr. Albert Owusu Annor, the presiding judge, convicted him on his own plea.
Police Chief Inspector, Adelaide Appiakorang told the court that the complainant, Madam Akosua Aboagyewaa, is a farmer who lives at Aduasa, while Kahoho lives at Akortikrom in the Birim South District.
She said Madam Aboagyewaa experienced frequent stealing of her farm produce at Nintankwanta and that on February 4 when Mr. Kwasi Asebu, a witness in the case, was returning from his farm in a taxi cab, he spotted the convict emerging from the complainant's farm with the foodstuff.
Chief Inspector Appiakorang said Kahoho stopped the same taxi to convey the goods, adding that, it was then that the witness confronted Kahoho in the car and he confessed having stolen 11 bunches of plantain.
The witness directed the driver to the Akim Swedru Police Station and handed over Kahoho to the police.
